“Growing up in Suburban New Jersey in the 1970’s was a grey existence. Once my friends and I discovered psychedelics, we went from B&W to full spectrum color!!! It didn’t take long for us to connect our experiences with LSD to the Summer of Love to the Grateful Dead, to the Fillmore Auditorium, to the Psychedelic Poster Artists, to eventually this trio of iconic people who ushered in the Psychedelic Age; Ken Kesey, Dr. Timothy Leary, and Owsley Stanley III. When I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in search of work as a commercial music photographer in the mid 1980’s, it was always my personal goal to be able to photograph as many psychedelic Icons, as they were the ones who inspired me as a photographer and in everyday life. I especially had my radar up to always try and be in proximity to the Holy Grail Trio; Kesey, Owsley and Leary. Here are the portraits I captured over the years of these 3 legendary psychedelic icons.” @jayblakesberg
