Alvan Meyerowitz began his photographic journey in the vibrant streets of New York City before migrating to the Woodstock area in the late 1960s, drawn by the creative energy of the era. In 1971, he made his way to San Francisco, where he quickly became a fixture in the city's legendary music and counterculture scenes.
Once in San Francisco he quickly found himself in the good graces of legendary concert promoter Bill Graham, and on stage with the likes of Bob Dylan and Peter Frampton to name a few. When he wasn’t in the legendary concert halls of San Francisco, he was covering counter culture moments with iconic characters of the time.
